SPC Ross McGinnis was an American Soldier serving in Iraq. While serving as a gunner in an HMMWV on a patrol, a hand grenade was thrown by the enemy inside the HMMWV, which was carrying McGinnis and four other Soldiers. SPC McGinnis could have easily jumped out of the vehicle and saved his own life; instead, he jumped IN the vehicle and covered the grenade with his body, absorbing the blast. He was killed, but the other four Soldiers lived because of his actions. He was awarded the Medal of Honor on 2 June 2008.
He is a hero.
